Everything is Void

One needs not be a Buddhist to practise Buddhism as a non-Buddhist can still regard Buddhism as a philosophy or a way of life.

I don't remember I ever had suffered insomnia in my life. But lately I had it for two consecutive nights as I was disturbed by a problem which for the time being I had no solution.

Luckily I was able to reflect on "everything changes all the time and nothing is permanent" during my meditation sessions while I was having my sleepless nights.

Thanks to my understanding of the teachings and the meditation technique that I have learned from Buddhism, I could overcome my insomnia within a short period of time.

If nothing could exist inherently, it is immaterial whether one would emerge as either the winner or the loser over a cause he is fighting for. After all, in the end everything is void as it is stated in the Heart Sutra which says that emptiness is void and void is emptiness.

Master 'Tall'(高先生)
Master 'Tall' was my Primary Five Hygiene Subject teacher. 'Tall' was his family name, though his family name did not reflect on his height.

Master 'Tall' was a first generation Hakka immigrant from China. He spoke Mandarin with a Hakka accent.
We, the students at that time, were not interested in the subject matter imparted by Master 'Tall'. We were more interested in his diversion from the lesson proper, the story-telling sessions.

The most captivating story told by Master 'Tall' is 'The Three Mansions' Street' (三门街)which lasted for many lessons of Hygiene. Master 'Tall' had a computer memory when relating the story without even referring to the book. We were so absorbed in the story told by Master ‘Tall’ that a needle dropping on the floor sounded just likes thunder.

Frankly speaking, the only benefit I gathered from his Hygiene lesson was his advice to us 'to squat in the latrine first thing in the morning irrespective whether you have any business to do or not'. This was a good habit which I had learned from him of which I had cultivated ever since.
