谋事在人？

在两年里面我们去了几趟的新加坡。我的：背包里总是会放了一把雨伞；我犹如英国绅士一般，有未雨绸缪的打算。结果，我的雨伞始终没有用武之地，因为我新加坡之行从来没有下过一阵雨。
我上次去新加坡时，憑着多次的经验估计新加坡未必会下雨，我为了减轻背包的重量，将雨伞从背包里取出。谁知道一到了新加坡时, 它却下了一场倾崩大雨。
这是谋事在人呢？还是成事在天呢？
再者，我们这次来新加坡原本打算不要外出进餐以节省下来的德士费，用它来充当旅店餐厅的餐费。可是事实与我们的计划完全背道而驰。当我们一住进旅店时，就被柜台服务员告知旅店餐厅因为装修而暂时休业。我们只好外出觅食。我们的如意算盘打不响。难道谋事在人行得通吗？
所以并不是每件事都能任我们规划的，因为外在因素往往并不在我们掌控之中。通常我们遇到这种状况的话，只好认命吧，或者讲好听些，我们要随缘。毕竟，古人曰：“谋事在人，成事在天。”

做人何必强求呢！

生木瓜炒菜
记得我生平第一次吃到用生木瓜来炒菜是在大学宿舍里。
当时因为没有食材好用，
我们唯一御用厨师的同学不知在校园何处採了一粒生木瓜来切片当菜来炒。
不错，炒出来的木瓜菜可以拿来送饭。(这或许当时是我们肚子饿的关系？还是没有其他更好的食物作为选择？我现在还搞不清楚。)
木瓜炒菜给我的印象很深刻!

如今我们家里也有用生木瓜来燉排骨汤喝。据说生木瓜炖汤可以用来‘以形补形’。

所以现在用生木瓜来作食材是很普遍了，并不稀奇了。

Rock Fish/Tiger Fish
石头鱼/老虎鱼

Tiger fish is rare and it is hardly sold in the local market. But, once it is sold it is in great demand by fish eaters.
Late comers to the market have to pre  order it  hoping to try their  luck on the following day.
This fish is conveniently known as Tiger Fish as it looks fierce and it is a eater of other smaller fish,
but its fate is no better than its counterparts as its ultimate destiny is still going down the throat of another fish eater, the human race.

When we bought it in a fish market we were told that it was "tiger fish' but when we ate it at a restaurant we were told that it was known as a 'rock fish' as the 'taukeh soo'( 头家嫂，the wife of the restaurant proprietor) told us that this type of fish usually hides itself in the space between the rocks in the sea. No wonder it can't grow up to a bigger size under such constraint of the spaces in between the rocks.

As it hides in between the rocks, it is difficult to catch it. That is the reason the fish can fetch a good price.

The rock fish was steamed with ginger and soya sauce, the flesh of which was not overcooked thanks to the skill of the chef who has over thirty years' of experience in the trade.

To Relive Our Past Memories

最近我发送给我一位几十年不曾联络的同学的讯息：

Recently I sent a text message to a varsity mate whom i haven't met for three decades. The message reads:

“记得在大学里您曾经用电单车载我意外地撞到路旁的石碑，我整个人弹飞起来后坐在斜坡的草坪上。幸好我却没有絲毫的皮肉伤。”

“I remember I was with you as a pillion passenger when the motorbike accidentally bumped at a roadside milestone near the Student Union House. I was ejected from my seat to fly in the air before I was landed on a grassy slope. Thank God I suffered not a slightest injury.”

他给我的回复是：
“别来无恙？怎么可能忘记你呢？只是不太记得你讲的那幕惊险的意外。”

My friend replied me:

“How are you? How could I not remembering you? But I really can't remember the accident you were mentioning.”

人们的记忆往往是很奇妙的。

Man’s memory power is really inconceivable.

有一些事情我们记得，别人记不起。

Certain things that we  remember but others don't.

有一些事情我们记不起，别人却记得清清楚楚。

On the hand, certain things that we have forgotten totally but others can remember vividly.

个人片面的回忆可以经过和朋友们的联系和沟通，编织成一个完整的记忆。

Fragments of our memory could be compiled and reorganised to generate a complete memory if we care to reconnect with our friends. Together we could share and reconstruct the fragmented memories of each and everyone of our friends, making our past memories more lively and vividly.

大碗的哲学

‘细密事’(什么是)大碗？
一般上，大碗的容量大，小碗的容量小。

比如一个食客在食摊上叫了一大碗的面食，他当然期待他的食材的份量是多而令他能吃饱的。
可能期待与事实有时也会有落差。
个中原因是‘大碗’的定义会因为立场(身份)不同而有差异。
食客所谓的大碗是要大碗里面装的食材多才会有饱足感。
可是站在小贩的立场来看，他可以给顾客一个碗大大，收费比小碗多多,然而碗里面的食材却是和大碗不成正比例(顾客没吃饱)。顾客只能忍气吞声，哑子吃黄连，因为小贩毕竟有依照顾客的要求，给顾客大碗公，所以双方没得争辩。
看官们，当您向小贩要求大碗时，您要向小贩慎重声明，您要求的大碗是碗里面的内容并不是小贩所要给的大碗的外表，虽然碗是同样大。
